[Classes 18, 66, 94(i), and 94 (ii)] A carton tor eggs, &c., comprises an article holder H, Figs. 6 and 7, and an enclosing shell E open at one or both ends, the holder H being provided with one or more projections 43 to engage apertures in the shell to prevent the holder sliding relatively to the shell. When the holder is inserted in the shell, the projections pass into apertures which are covered by flaps 56 produced in making the apertures. Finger-openings 53 in the shell and holder facilitate handling of the cartons and access to the contents is obtained by tearing up perforated flaps x. The shell may be a tube which, if formed with a front wall of double thickness, has the slots with which the projections 43 engage provided only in the inner layer of the front wall and extending, if desired, to the end edges of the wall, or, alternatively, the shell may comprise a blank, Fig. 15, wrapped around the holder and held closed by a tongue- and-slot device 76, 77. The holder H is made from cardboard or moulded with articlereceiving recesses defined by pillars 30 and connecting ribs 32 which allow of several holders being nested, and a cushion 35 of corrugated board formed with apertures to fit over the central row of pillars is also provided. A filled holder is inserted into a shell E, Fig. 14, through a shoe 60 which comprises a bottom plate with a tapering end formed by top and side plates 61, 62 respectively, the side plates having resilient ends 63.
