Abstract
483,126. Vehicle wheels. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. Aug. 11, 1937, No. 22074. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1936. [Class 144 (ii)] To vary the tracking width of a vehicle, the tyre-carrying rims are secured by lugs having seats adapted to co-operate selectively with axially-spaced inclined seats formed on the spoke-ends or felloe of the wheel. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the spokes 21 are formed with oppositely-inclined seats 22, 23 each adapted to be engaged by either of the seats 32, 33 on the attachment lugs 27 by which the rim 28 is carried. By reversal of the lug and changing the operative wheelseatings, four axial adjustments of the rims may be made at each side of the vehicle. Figs. 13, 14 show a lug formed in two interfitting parts 39, 40 each having a head portion engaging one side only of the rim 28. With this form of lug, the rim may be removed without complete detachment of the lugs from the wheel.
