Abstract

481,986. Controlling aircraft. HAVILLAND, H. DE, and DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd. Nov. 12, 1936, No. 30971. [Class 4] [Also in Groups XXVIII and XXVI] The pressure actuated auxiliary apparatus of aircraft is adapted to receive its energy through conduits connecting the apparatus with a Venturi system associated with the exhaust of an internal-combustion engine and also with the inlet manifold thereof. Instruments 5 adapted to be operated by suction operating apparatus are connected to a conduit 6 which is coupled to a cross conduit 8 leading by branches 10, 11 respectively with the inlet manifold of an engine 9 and Venturi system 12 on the exhaust pipe of the engine. In the lead to the conduits 11 are non-return valves 19 which are located so that suction from the Venturi system tends to open the valve and suction from the engine induction manifold tends to close the valves. The Venturi element comprises two internal'cones 29, 30 in a casing 28 supported within the exhaust pipe by tubular leads 27 which pass to an outer annulus 22 and thence by a pipe with flange connection 21 with the conduits 11. The casing 28 is disposed in the exhaust pipe at a position 23 which is of diminishing diameter and immecliately before a section 26 which is of increasing diameter.
