481,067. Glass manufacture. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.) May 19. 1937, No. 13975. Drawings to Specification. [Class 56] A glass which is intended for sealing to ferrous metals, especially alloys of iron and nickel, is made from a batch consisting of 52-64 per cent of silica, 29-40 per cent of boron trioxide, and 2-7 per cent of sodium oxide, potassium oxide, or lithium oxide. Up to 5 per cent of aluminium oxide may be included also. When boron trioxide is used in excess of 35 per cent, the glass may be protected from attack by moisture by coating it with a suitable material, such as a baking enamel of the alkyd resin type. The Specification includes a diagram showing the thermal contraction characteristics of a number of glasses. Specification 258,872, [Class 56], is referred to.
