Abstract

Grinding-wheels &c. having a porous structure having the volume of grinding-material and bond equal to at least 50 per cent of the volume of the wheel, the size of the pores being greater than that of the abrasive grains and being smaller for high speed wheels. The wheel &c. is formed by mixing the grinding-material and bodies of spherical &c. form, moulding the wheel and removing the bodies; the bodies may be composed of coke slag, saw dust, seed corn, cork, pith, &c., and are removed by burning. An example of a composition to be employed has 1000 cc. of corundum of 150 grit, 150 cc. powdered ceramic frit, 250 cc. of a wetting solution, for example, a solution of dextrine, resin or waterglass, and 900 cc. of the bodies.
