Abstract
471,810. Making mesh screens. HOLMAN, H. E. March 9, 1936, No. 7133. [Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A metal mesh screen 8 of tubular form, with or without stiffening bands 7, particularly for use as an electrode in electric discharge devices, is made by applying, as by electrodeposition, nickel or other metal to a core 3 having the desired pattern grooves 5 formed in its surface, preventing metal from adhering to the un grooved parts or removing such metal, and then breaking down the core to free the mesh. The core may be formed from lead by rolling with spirally ribbed rollers, by diecasting, or by cold pressing. The surface between grooves 5 may be insulated after forming or the whole core may be covered with insulation, through which the grooves 5 are cut. If no insulation is used the plated core is ground until only the screen is left on the core which is then melted out. If the core is of wax or the like its grooved surface is made conductive by coating with graphite or bronze powder or by metallizing by anodic bombardment or spluttering. In some cases the core may be removed by electrical or chemical means. The screen may be of circular or rectangular section. Specifications 13396/05, [Class 101], 458,675, and 458,736 are referred to.
