Abstract
471,583. Controlling aircraft. OPLINTER, J. G. M. J. DE W. D'. Feb. 15, 1937, No. 4472. [Class 4] In dual-control apparatus of the kind in which a hand wheel mounted on the control column is swingable sideways so as to be operable from either of two side-by-side seats, the foot-operated controls are similarly displaced. Fig. 2 shows a wheel 1 carried by an arm 2 pivotally mounted on a control column 3. Fast on the pivot axle of arm 2 is a pulley 10 around which passes Bowden cables 8 which also pass round a second pulley 10 concentric with the axis of a swinging arm 5 carrying rudder bar 4. Movement of bar 4 is transmitted by chain gearing to a pulley on a central two-armed lever 7 connected to the rudder by cables 11. Travel of arms 2 and 5 is limited by stops which are adjustable to suit the controls to pilots of differing height.
