Abstract

475,059. Electrolytic production of hyposulphites. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES. May 11, 1936, No. 13360. Convention date, May 10, 1935. [Class 41] Hyposulphites are obtained by cathodic reduction of bisulphite-containing solutions using cathodes of thin wires preferably of diameter less than 2 mm. e.g. 0À1-0À5 mm. along which the catholyte is moved, the wires being spaced apart preferably at intervals more than 0À5 mm.; the electrolyte is agitated by introduction of an inert gas such as carbon dioxide, hydrogen or nitrogen. The current should be greater than 1 amp., preferably 5-50 amps., per 100 cc. of catholyte. Specification 475,060 is referred to.
