[Class 75 (iii)] In a mains energized cigarette igniter in which the heating element is carried by a removable part k supported by a hollow base part a, two contact pins b are arranged in an annular recess h within the base part a so as to render them difficult of access to the fingers when the part k is detached. The heating element is connected by plug-and-socket couplings r, s with two arcuate contacts q resting on the pins b, the circuit being closed by depressing the latter against springs f by means of the part k into contact with spring contacts g connected with the mains by a flexible lead. The pins b may be arranged in separate recesses and the arcuate contacts q replaced by stud-like contacts. The heating element comprises a resistance wire v, which may pass through parallel refractory tubes u on the removable insulating piece t. A removable apertured cover w is lined with refractory material. A flange c on the part a may be secured between a heavy flanged metal ring x and supporting pieces 2, 3, the bottom being covered with baize, rubber, &c. According to the Provisional Specification, the pins b are supported at the base by resilient metal strips adapted to engage terminals in the base, and the ring x has an annular spigot engaged in a recess in the underside of the base.
