Abstract
468,812. Drying offal &c. STEINMANN, W. June 15, 1936, No. 16594. Convention date, June 25, 1935. [Class 34 (ii)] Apparatus for the disintegration and drying, or drying alone, of animal material comprises a horizontal cylinder provided with an agitator extending over substantially the whole length of the cylinder and adapted to scrape material from the inner surface thereof, the blades of the agitator, which are of flat crosssection, being formed as hollow beams through which heating medium passes. In the construction shown, the material to be dried is fed through a pipe c into a cylinder provided with a double wall a, b adapted to serve as a steam jacket. An agitator carried by a rotary shaft g is provided with hollow beams i which are each provided with a scraping edge o and extend along the inner wall a of the cylinder. The beams i are supplied with steam through a pipe which is connected through hollow arms to a ring k communicating with one end of each beam. The beams at the other ends are connected by a ring m. The steam in the beams may be replaced by heating liquid, such as water or oil.
