Abstract
466,579. Discharging electricity from fabrics &c. GHADFIELD, C. R. A. Dec. 3, 1935, No. 33513. [Class 35] [Also in Group XL] Apparatus for discharging electricity from materials, mechanism, and machinery comprises a casing 3 enclosing an X - ray tube 1 and having an air inlet 4 and an outlet 6, means such as a fan 7 being provided to cause a current of air to flow through the casing, through the sphere of influence of the X-ray tube to the outlet whence it is directed on to the material 13 to be de-electrified. The air current also cools the X-ray tube. The casing is of lead and lead baffles 5, 9 are provided in the inlet and outlet. The apparatus may be mounted on a transportable casing 11 enclosing a transformer and rectifying apparatus. To ensure that only particles carrying charges of appropriate sign shall impinge on the charged material &c. 13, a biassed grid or two grids biassed to different degrees may be located transversely of the outlet from the casing. The Provisional Specification describes also an apparatus in which charged particles are given off by an electrically heated wire.
