Abstract

450,111. Tyre-building machines. BRIDGE & CO., Ltd., D., Castleton Iron Works, Castleton, Lancashire.-(National Rubber Machinery Co.; Akron, Ohio, U.S.A.) March 6, 1935, No. 6982. [Class 144 (i)] Means for " stitching " flat-band plies on a rotary tyre-building drum comprises pairs of stitcher-discs h and endless flexible belts m operating substantially tangentially of the drum. The disc-and-belt units, preferably arranged so that each belt operates in advance of its associated disc, are adapted to traverse the built - up plies from the centre-line to their edges. In the construction shown, the belts m (in the form of wire helices) are adjustably tensioned over grooved pulleys k, k<1> journalled in blocks j, j<1> on spindles i which are mounted in the stitcher-disc brackets g. The traverse and angular movements of the stitcher-arms a are controlled (in known manner), from a shaft c and rack- and-quadrant devices.
