[Class 18] A drawn or moulded box for powder or liquids has a sliding lid 3, Fig. 3, and a powder, &c. container in the form of an inverted tray 5 provided with an aperture 7 which, when the box is tilted, allows material to pass from the tray into a space 13 left between the tray and one end of the box. The tray is positioned in the box by means of an upstanding rib on the floor of the box, and the aperture 7 may be formed between the side wall of the tray and the bottom of the box. The side edges of the lid embrace beads 2 on the box sides, and when the lid is slid into the closed position, its forward edge rides up an inclined flange 10 which holds the lid tightly closed. The lid has a projection 12 to facilitate opening and closing, and its movements are limited by a rib 8 and a flange 9 both of which can abut against the end of the box. A pip 11 which can ride over the end wall of the box prevents accidental opening of the lid. In addition, to limit the opening and closing movements of the lid, the lid flanges may be provided with grooves engaged by ribs on the box sides as described in Specification 457,854. In this construction the tray is positioned against the ends of an inward bend on the top edges of the box walls. Tabs on the lid flanges may extend underneath the box and be engaged by pips on the bottom so as to limit the movement of the lid. To prevent accidental escape of powder, a zigzag strip of paper bearing advertising matter fills the space 13 and one end is passed through the aperture 7 or underneath the bottom edge of the tray. In a box for liquids, the aperture 7, Fig. 6, is closed by a spring-pressed plate 15 which is raised when the lid is slid back due to the engagement of a pip 17 with a tongue 16 on the plate. The box may also be of polygonal or circular shape. According to the Provisional Specification, the inverted tray can be replaced by a simple partition which may be of wire gauze.
