Abstract

457,705. Air-heating stoves. HOLMBERG, F. J., 86, Tooronga Road, Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia. May 1, 1935, No. 13012. Convention date, May 2, 1934. [Class 64 (i)] [See also Group XI] A solid-fuel, air-heating stove comprises a casing 10 forming a combustion chamber and provided near its upper end with a discharge flue 28 and within its lower end with a firegrate 33, an opening in the casing directly in front of the firegrate, an air chamber 15 extending around the back and sides of the firegrate, an air inlet 21 into the air chamber at or near its lower end, and a plurality of air pipes 26 extending upwardly and forwardly through the combustion chamber from the top of the rear portion of the air chamber to adjacent the front of the top of the casing, where they discharge the heated air. Vertical tubes 24 extend from the side parts of the air chamber to the top of the casing. The inner walls of the chamber 15 have fins 20. The opening in front of the grate is closed by a vertically slidable door 40 carried by chains 42 passing over rollers 43 and provided with balance weights. A water tank 45 for moistening the heated air may be provided. The stove may be mounted in a brickwork recess, which forms an air space 25 into which the heated air passes from the tubes 24, 26 and from which it passes to the discharge opening 31. The space 25 is divided from the chimney flue 29 by a plate 30. The opening 31 may have pivoted louvres or other regulating means. The plate 30 and the air outlet may be further up the chimney flue. Additional air may pass to the space 25 from an inlet 22 into which the inlet 21 projects. Alternatively, the stove may be mounted in an outer casing. Pipes may deliver air from the upper air-space to any convenient positions. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also an air-heating stove, shown in Fig. 9 (Cancelled), comprising an air chamber 15 surrounding the grate and combustion chamber on three sides. The air chamber is continued to the top of the casing 10 and is divided from the combustion space by the inclined plate 53 and the upward extensions of the sides of the firespace. The inner walls of the air chamber, including the plate 53 and the flue 55, are provided with fins 20. The door is hingedly mounted at the side. A fan may be provided to cause the air to flow downwardly in counter current to the flow of combustion products. A plurality of valve-controlled pipes may convey the heated air to different rooms. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
