Abstract
457,462. Granule - coated webs. TENNANT, W. J., 111, Hatton Garden, London.-(Carborundum Co. ; Nagara Falls, New York, U.S.A.) May 27, 1935, No. 15456. [Class 60] Apparatus for making granule-coated webs comprises supporting means for a web having its adhesive coated surface directed downwards, a support below the web for granules, an electrode above the web and a co-operating electrode below the granule support consisting of a beater operating on the underside of the granule support, whereby the granules are oriented and projected on to the web by combined electrostatic and mechanical forces. A web P passes around adjustable guide rolls 10, 11 with its adhesive coated surface downward. Granules are supplied from a hopper 19 to an endless belt 14 of rubberized fabric. An upper electrode 23 of good conducting material, e.g. metal, is supported by lugs 22 above the web P. The lower electrode situated below the upper run of the belt 14 is a rotary beater 28 consisting of a central metal shaft 29 enclosed in a sheath 30 of poorly conducting material and blades 31 also of poorly conducting material. Low conductivity electrodes may be located on each side of the beater and consist of a metal plate 25 surrounded by a sheath 26 of poorly conducting material. After deposition of the granules the adhesive is set by air from a blower 36 and the web is passed to a drier (not shown). Specification 433,128 is referred to.
