Abstract
457,412. Roller bearings. ENGLISH NEEDLE & FISHING TACKLE CO., Ltd., and KING, G. B., Central Works, Studley, Warwickshire. Sept. 27, 1935, No. 26786. [Class 12 (i)] A loose wheel or pulley is mounted on a shaft 13 by cylindrical needle rollers 10 bearing on a race ring 11 having an outer sleeve 15 forming the hub of the wheel, the ends 18 of the sleeve 15 being bent inwardly to retain the rollers in position independently of the shaft 13. The sleeve 15 may be in one or more pieces. As shown the sleeve 15 consists of two plates pressed to forma pulley rim and provided with embossings 31, 35, forming a lubricant nipple and a lubricant passage 36. The ends of the rollers may be of cylindrical, conical, parabolic, ellipsoidal, spherical, or other rounded form. The race ring 11 may be formed from a strip bent into cylindrical form with the edges meeting in a butt joint of chevron form. In a modification the rollers are retained by annular plates 20, Fig. 4, having inturned lips 21, and these together with packing washers 25 are held in position by end caps 24 . The latter have slots 26 forming spring fingers so that a bead 27 thereon can snap into a groove 28. Alternatively each cap has an annular groove and snaps over a spring ring fitted in the groove 28. The packing ring 25 may be inserted between the ring 20 and the sleeve ends 18. In this case the outer edge of each ring 20 has an axially extending flange. The rings 20 may have an annular groove to accommodate the roller ends instead of being provided with the lips 21. Specification 457,411 is referred to.
