Abstract
457,086. Screw-and-nut gearing. MAAG - ZAHNRADER UND - MASCHINEN AKT.-GES., 219, Hardstrasse, Zurich, Switzerland. April 23, 1936, No. 11640. Convention date, April 24, 1935. [Class 80 (iii)] Nuts for use with screwed spindles of machine tools, measuring apparatus, &c., where great accuracy is required, are prevented from wearing rapidly by forming in the nut 2 one or more slots or grooves 4 to which lubricant is supplied under pressure through conduits 5, 6. The nut is in two parts and the grooves are arranged at the joints, but it may be in a single piece when one groove only may be provided. The grooves extend close to the ends of the nut. In order to ensure a film of oil on each thread the latter are, at 7, Fig. 2, bevelled and rounded and the tops of the threads have a slight clearance with those of the spindle and this, in conjunction with the oil films, ensures practically no metallic contact at these points. The halves are held together and secured to the machine part 1 by a tapped ring 3, a similar ring 9 and close-fitting sleeve 8.
