Abstract

454,555. Balls of twine &c. WRIGHTS' ROPES, Ltd., and FOX, A. E., Garrison Street, Birmingham. March 1, 1935, No. 6468. [Class 120 (iii)] Balls of twine, &c., such as binder twine, which are self supporting when wound without the use of a bobbin by the nature of the winding, e.g. universal or ball winding, have the exterioi surface treated with a cohesive or binding material which holds the outside turns together to prevent collapse of the outside layer during the unwinding, which takes place from the inside. The ball of twine 1 has its outer portion sprayed or brushed with a medium such as cellulose lacquer to hold the outer layers together. A suitable dye or stain may be incorporated in the lacquer to give an indication that the supply of twine is running out. A thinning medium is added to the lacquer to allow the outer turns to separate one from another in use. The outer free end 4 may be held by a pin 5 penetrating the body of the ball.
