Abstract
435,067. Shoring mine roofs. BAGULEY, C., Tangley Cottage, Oak Avenue, Hanworth, Middlesex. June 4, 1934, No. 16577. [Class 20 (ii)] Packs of rubble or waste material to constitute supports for the roofs of mines are built between side-plates which are of inwardly curved or V-shape secured at a predetermined distance from each other by tie-bolts d, struts or ground spikes, and which are adapted for repeated use. The corrugated side-plates a may be fitted with spikes c to lock in the ground and may be provided with plates b vertically adjustable by bolts and slots on the plates a so that, after use, the plates b may be lowered and the side-plates removed. The thickness of the pack at middle height is less than the mean thickness of the base and top. The material forming the walls is built against the inner face of the plates a and rubble or other waste material is packed solidly between the walls, the plates a being moved forward as the walls advance. A cross-section of the completed pack is shown by Fig. 4.
