Abstract
429,726. Photo-electric cells. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, London. - (Assignees of Salzberg, B. ; 659, East 165th Street, New York, U.S.A.) Sept. 18, 1934, No. 26830. Convention date, Sept. 27, 1933. [Class 39 (i)] A photo-electric cell has a plate like cathode receiving light from a direction normal to its central portion, an electrode acting as a secondary cathode so arranged in the path of light as to offer minimum obstruction, and an anode accelerating electrons from the cathode so as to impinge on the secondary cathode. As shown, the cathode 13 is of semi-cylindrical shape sensitized on the concave surface, and the secondary cathode consists of a rectangular plate 15 lying in a diametral plane and surrounded by an anode in the form of a grid 19 wound around rods. A light sensitive surface may be provided on the secondary cathode 15, which is maintained at a positive potential lower than that of the anode. In a modification the secondary cathode consists of a rod surrounded by a helical anode. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also a cell in which the photo-electric cathode consists of a curved mesh, the anode is a curved grid, and the secondary electrode a curved plate, the light being incident to the convex surface of the photo-electric cathode. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
