Abstract

411,700. Drying threads and fabrics. BERGMANN, A., 19, Place du Chapitre, Reims, Marne, France. July 18, 1933, No. 20279. Convention date, July 25, 1932. [Class 34 (i).] In its rectilinear or zig-zag travel through a drying chamber, a fabric or a sheet of threads is first treated by a stream of air in co-current, the air entering at atmospheric temperature and being progressively heated up to the maximum permissible temperature, thereupon being evacuated from the chamber, and then the fabric meets a stream of air in countercurrent, this stream being maintained at the maximum permissible temperature from its entry near the exit for the fabric to its withdrawal near the evacuation point for the first stream. In the form shown, fabric 3 enters a heat-insulated chamber 1 at 4 and passes through it in zig-zag to the outlet 5. Air is evacuated at points a and b, hot air being forced in at c and cold air drawn in at 4. The baffles for guiding the air consist of undulated metal plates 8 supported on an insulating backing, and underneath each crest is a steam tube 9, the diameter of these tubes increasing progressively from points 4 and c to points a and b. The supply and exhaust boxes such as 13 have openings in the small sides such as 13b, the chambers thus formed being subdivided by partitions to form compartments decreasing in size towards the sides of the chambers, so that uniform flow is obtained. The exhaust air is passed through a heat recuperator 19 before being discharged.
