Abstract

408,407. Lined concrete pipes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., 32, Osnaburgh Street, London, TWISS, D. F., OWEN, E. W. B., and McCOWAN, W., Fort Dunlop, Birmingham. Dec. 30, 1932, No. 36849. [Class 99 (ii).] A concrete pipe is provided with a lining comprising a priming layer of bitumen and short fibres, the fibres preferably not exceeding 2 mm. in length, and a surface layer of thermoplastic material containing rubber. The priming layer may also include rubber and is applied to the pipe as a solution in coal tar naphtha, and when the solvent has evaporated the surface layer of rubber, which is preferably mixed with paraffin wax, is applied in a molten condition. The latter coating may be distributed evenly by an internally-heated spherical or disc-like tool adapted to be pulled through the pipe, although, if desired, the coating may be appled so as to have a greater thickness in the lower half of the pipe. The above materials may also be used for jointing together the ends of such lined pipes.
