Abstract
407,329. Rotary kilns. JENNINGS, H. W. K., 51, Chancery Lane, London.-(Smidth & Co. Aktieselskab, F. L. ; 33, Vestergade, Copenhagen.) Sept. 13, 1932, No. 25490. [Class 51 (ii).] In a rotary kiln of the kind having at its discharge end a number of external cooler tubes through which the material travels in a direction opposed to that of the material in the kiln proper, the diameter of the kiln 1 increases towards the discharge end, and each of the cooler tubes consists of two or more cylindrical sections arranged so that the tubes increase in diameter by steps in the direction of travel of the material therein. In the construction shown each of the three sections 5, 9 and 11 of a cooling-tube has an internal helical conveyer 10, and in the first section 5 this conveyer may be ribbed to increase the cooling-effect. The section 5 may also have external ribs 6. Heat transmitting devices such as ribs, chains or partitions may be provided in the sections 9, 11. A bearing 12 for the kiln drum is arranged immediately above the cooler tubes, and in large capacity kilns a similar bearing may be provided below them.
