Abstract
407,245. Crushers with vibrating jaws. BIRDSBORO STEEL FOUNDRY & MACHINE CO., Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Peterson, E. T.; 25th Boulevard, Pennside, Reading, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) July 27, 1933, Nos. 21155 and 21156. Convention dates, Aug. 26, 1932, and May 20, 1933. [Class 59.] The fixed jaw of a stone crusher is pivoted at its upper end and supported at the lower end by a toggle which is prevented from reaching its dead centre by a stop maintained in position by a spring, the toggle being arranged to collapse against the pressure of the spring when an uncrushable object enters the jaws. As shown a double-faced moving jaw 12 is pivoted at 11 at the upper end and is reciprocated by a link 21 and eccentric 23 at the lower end. Fixed jaws 59 oppose the moving jaws and the upper end of each fixed jaw is provided with a knuckle joint 66 held in position by a spring bolt 70. The lower end of the fixed jaw is normally retained in position by a toggle joint 76<1>, 77<1> bearing against a block 90 adjustable by shims 94. The toggle is prevented from reaching its dead centre by a bolt 79 pivoted at its upper end and encircled by a spring 85 tending to straighten the toggle, but which is compressed when the toggle is broken during the passage of iron &c. through the jaws, as shown in the left hand side of the drawing. The crushing faces 15, 16 of the fixed jaws are forced into an undercut surface on the upper end by the wedge-shaped head of a spring-pressed bolt 62 at their lower ends. The crushing faces 13, 14 of the moving jaw are forced into an undercut surface at their lower ends by transverse rods 53 bearing on the upper ends and forced into contact by vertical spring-pressed rods 55. The jaws diverge downwardly and are grooved parallel with their divergent edges and blocks 49 shaped to the divergent edges are bolted to the side plates to enclose the crushing spaces. The lower end 18 of the moving jaw is journalled in wedge-blocks 19, 20 housed in the link 21, the link being held into contact with the moving jaw by springs 30 compressed against a surface on the jaw by bolts 27 pivoted to the link. One side of the crusher may be used for coarse grinding and the other for fine grinding, the material from the conveyer 101 passes into the partitioned part 99 of the hopper, through the jaws 13, 15 to a reciprocating sieve 103 from which the coarse material is discharged into a hopper 108 of a conveyer 109 and then into the partitioned part 100 of the feed hopper. From the hopper 100 the material descends through jaws 14, 16, deflector 111, orifice 112 in link 21 to shoot 113 where it meets the sifted material from screen 103 and is conveyed at 114 to classifying screens 115, 116. The screen 103 may be replaced by an imperforate plate so that the whole of the material passing through the first crusher is returned to the second. The sifting of the material may be carried out externally of the mill.
