Abstract

406,255. Packets or cartons for cigarettes &c. OTTINGER, N., 31, Nassau Street, New York, U.S.A. May 14, 1932, No. 13947. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 16, 1932]. [Classes 18 and 94 (ii).] A packet or carton for cigarettes, &c. has one side 7, Fig. 2, cut away obliquely at 13 from one end, and the closure 16 for that end pf the packet is hinged to the side opposite the side 7 and is formed with a flap 8 which can be inserted under the edge 13. The wall 9 is cut away obliquely, as shown, or it may be continuous ; and the closure 16 is formed with a further flap 10 which may be substantially rectangular. A reinforcement for the closure 16 is provided by an extension flap which is folded over and gummed thereto. In the above embodiment, the body of the carton and the closure comprise a single blank folded to tubular form, the bottom of the carton being closed by a separate paper &c. tab 20 gummed over the open bottom or over end closing flaps, or the blank may be provided with a flap and suitable extensions thereto to form a bottom. The oblique edges in the sides 7, 9 may meet the corner of the packet at different points, the flaps 8, 10 being similarly altered. Separate parts of a trade mark can be printed on the sections 7, 8 so that the complete mark is seen only when the packet is closed ; and the meeting edges of these two sections can be sealed by a gummed tab. The contents is wrapped in tinfoil 5, but the top and bottom ends of this wrapping may be omitted. Fig. 9 shows a modified blank in which the flap 10 is provided with a tongue 10<a> which engages a slot in an extension flap 18 to the closure 16 ; and the narrower side walls are formed double, the members 15 being connected to the other members by tongue-and-slot means. An outer wrapping of transparent material, such as that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Cellophane," may enclose the whole packet. It is also stated that the edge 13 extends across a side intermediate of the ends thereof.
