Abstract
406,072. Scaffold towers. RAWLINSON, S., 400, Audley Range, and STIRRUP, J., 9, Warwick Street, both in Blackburn. Sept. 19, 1932, No. 25960. [Class 20 (ii).] Relates to portable scaffold towers of the kind comprising one or more verticallyextensible sections A actuated by an elevating screw F, the pitch of which is sufficiently steep to enable the sections to descend by gravity when the operating handle G is released. According to the invention, the extensible sections are fitted with one or more counterbalance weights E for reducing the effort required in the lifting operation and for decreasing the rate of descent of the sections when the operating handle is released. The wires or ropes B of the weights pass over pulleys C mounted on the supporting frame B and are attached to the sides of the section A at or near the bottom thereof. Where more than one movable section is employed, the ropes B are attached to the lowermost section.
