[Classes 6 (i) and 6 (ii).] Apparatus for removing moisture from turf or hard surfaces comprises an absorbing roller 1 with a periphery of sponge rubber, a pressure roller 8, a receptacle 24 below the pressure roller, and a guide lip 31 of rubber or leather on the receptacle in brushing contact with the absorbing roller. The rollers and receptacle may be mounted in the frame of a lawn-mower, a household cleaning-device, or another apparatus. The absorbing roller 1 may be mounted in a V-shaped frame F provided with a handle-bar 6. The pressure roller 8 is mounted in adjustable arms 10 and is driven by contact with the roller 1 or by belt gearing 22. In a modification the roller 8 is mounted in a pivoted yoke adjustable by means of an operating rod adjustably connected to the handle 7. In another modification the absorbing roller 1 is mounted in adjustable extensions of the side bars of the frame F. The receptacle 24 may be detachably connected to the frame F, or adjustably supported by lugs 25, bolts 26, and slotted arms 27 and by a strap 28 and bolt 29. It has a discharge cock 32 and is arranged to rest on the ground when the handle 7 is released. The guide lip 31 is attached to the front edge 30 of the receptacle and guides into it the water pressed out of the sponge rubber A. The apparatus may be adapted to be drawn or pushed by traction power and may be provided with an electric or other motor for driving the roller 1. A sectional roller may be mounted on downwardly projecting arms on the frame F so as normally to be out of contact with the ground. On this roller the apparatus may be transported with the absorbing roller 1 raised from the ground. The arms carrying the sectional roller may also carry the receptacle 24. The absorbing roller may be mounted on a cranked axle and held in operative or inoperative position by pawl and ratchet gear. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification, 384,907.
