Abstract
397,911. Wire and grid resistances. HOTPOINT ELECTRIC APPLIANCE CO., Ltd., 24, Newman Street, Oxford Street, London, and SIMS, W. J., Belindean, Wellesley Avenue, Richings Park, Iver, Buckinghamshire. March 2, 1932, No. 6355. [Class 37.] A resistance element for heating-apparatus comprises a plurality of similar flat resistances of grid or like shape arranged to lie substantially in one plane and to extend over substantially the same bounding area, the units being bent in the same direction out of the plane at points where they cross another unit. As shown, two grids A, B consist of a number of straight parallel portions of sheathed wire resistance material connected by semicircular bends, the grids being arranged so that the straight portions of one lie between those of the other. The grids may be mounted on a fixed rack consisting of parallel strips of metal set edgewise and provided with spaced depressions on which the straight portions rest. The bent portions of the grid B are bent downwardly so as to be clear of the grid A when the straight portions of both grids are in the same plane. The turns of the resistance wire in the bent-down portions are spread out so that these portions are not heated to such a high temperature as the rest. The ends C, D of the units are arranged to project at one edge of the element and are adapted to engage clips. in a switch block arranged to connect the units in series or parallel or to cut one out of circuit.
