Abstract
394,200. Switch contacts. ALLM€NNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET, Võsteras, Sweden. Oct. 14, 1932, No. 28728. Convention date, Oct. 15, 1931. [Class 38 (v).] A contact for heavvcurrent switches has a pair of flared contact fingers 2 in the form of an inverted V comprising the relativelyfixed contact member between which is adapted to engage the wedge-shaped movable contact 1. During the contact engagement the fingers 2 are adapted to move pivotally about their lower ends, relatively strong springs <3> bearing on their outer sides near the lower ends and relatively weak springs 6 bearing on their outer sides near the upper ends so that a larger lateral movement of the upper ends is permitted than can take place at the lower ends. The inward movement of the contact fingers when the contact 1 is lowered is limited by the enlarged heads of pins 4 which pass loosely through holes in the outer springs 3. Current is led to the contact fingers 2 through flexible strips 8, 9, portions of the strips 8 being bowed together to produce electrodynamic forces tending to hold the contacts in engagement. The rocking motion of the contact fingers during the engagement by the fixed contact is stated to prevent welding or sticking together of the contacts due to arcing.
