Abstract

381,378. Moulding pulp. PULP INDUSTRIES, Ltd., 19, New Bridge Street, London. Nov. 13, 1931, No. 31488. Convention date, Nov. 13, 1930. [Class 87 (ii).] To enable machines for making hollow articles from fibrous pulp in pervious moulds by the aid of internal gaseous pressure, to be used for articles of varying size and depth without complications due to unequal drying, the valve for admitting the gaseous fluid is regulatable so that it can be set to open at varying times and at varying speeds according to the size and depth of the article under treatment, and a shield is provided over part of the exterior of the mould to retard the passage of the fluid through the pervious walls. In operation the pulp is admitted initially through the valve c to the mould a while the air valve d is closed, and the latter is opened sooner and quicker when moulding a deep article than when moulding a shallow one, by means of the cam r, s made in two adjustable sections. Other cams with differentlyshaped nose-pieces r<1>, r<2> may be substituted for the section r to vary the speed of opening in addition to regulating the time. The cowl e surrounds the part of the mould which requires less drying in order to retard the passage of the heated air through the pervious walls and such air may be forced to pass over the other parts of the mould through the restricted passages f, h. Perforations i in the cowl may be regulated by dampers to vary the effect of the retardation at will. Specification 318,602, [Class 87 (ii), Moulding plastic &c. substances], is referred to.
