Abstract
384,580. Sewing-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C., 65, Chancery Lane, London.- (Singer Manufacturing Co. ; Elizabeth, New Jersey, U.S.A.), June 16, 1932, No. 17023. [Class 112.] Feed by dogs.-The feed-dogs of a sewing- machine can be lowered to an inoperative position to enable the machine to be used for darning or embroidery, the material being then fed by hand. The usual feed-dog 7 is carried by the bar 6 provided with the rock shaft 3 and rocker arm 31 and a fork for engaging the lift roller 9. This roller is mounted on an arm 10 of a bell-crank lever pivoted on the stud 11 of the feed lift arm 12 clamped to the rock shaft 4. This arm 12 has an aperture 14 in which slides the shank 15 of a thumb screw 16. The threaded end of this screw engages one of two tapped apertures 20 of the other arm 21 of the bell-crank lever 10, these apertures being equidistant from the pivot 11. When the thumb screw is engaged in the upper aperture, the feed-dog is in the operative position, the parts being shown by the full lines of Fig. 1. When engaged in the lower aperture, the parts are in the position shown by the dotted lines of Fig. 1 and the feed - dog is inoperative. A finger-piece 22 facilitates the moving of the bell-crank lever to bring the holes opposite the screw.
