Abstract
384,092. Carbonizing-apparatus. NAGY, D. DE, 10, West Kensington Mansions, West Kensington, London. Dec. 15, 1931, No. 34704. [Class 55 (i).] Apparatus for carbonizing solid fuels such as coal, peat, straw, or grass by internal combustion comprises a number of closed sectorshaped containers 11 arranged round a hollow shaft 12, with which openings at the top and bottom of each container are connected by valve-controlled pipes 13 and 15, 16 respectively. Each container is closed by a lid 30 removable for charging, and has an opening closed by a door 33 through which ignition of the charge may be started. Entry of air during carbonization is provided by holes 29 in the external wall, any or all of which may be closed by plugs. In operation, when the material is well alight, the upper valves 18 are closed, and the containers worked by down-draught, the distillates passing through the lower pipes 15, 16 to the central shaft 12 under the suction of an exhauster. All the containers may be operated simultaneously, or in sequence to render the process continuous.
