[Class 51 (ii).] A metal-melting furnace which, after the charge has been melted, is tilted and used as a converter, is continuously rocked during the melting operation and is held stationary in a tilted position while serving as a converter. The furnace is fired by pulverized fuel injected at d, and the waste gases escape through the shaft a<1> which also serves as a preheating hopper for the charge and as a pouring spout. A tuyere e is provided in the furnace bed for the supply of air to the molten metal x while the furnace is functioning as a converter. Specification 360,855 is referred to.
