Abstract

375,311. Cleaning or polishing floors &c. HORTON, S., 53, Station Road, Clacton-on-Sea. March 20, 1931, No. 8562. [Classes 60 and 138 (i).] A device for cleaning, polishing, or scouring floors, tables, or other surfaces comprises a supporting member a, Figs. 1 and 3, carrying a wheel d in contact with the surface under treatment, the to-and-fro movement of the wheel over the surface causing the rotation of a rectangular thrust frame f provided with a rectangular cleaning appliance g. The shaft d<2> of the wheel d carries a fixed friction wheel d3 and a loosely-mounted friction wheel d<4>, both of which engage the surface f4 of the frame f. The cleaning appliance g fits over the flange f<2> of the frame and is pressed yieldingly against the surface e by springs f<3>. In a modification, shown in Fig. 6 as a plan from below, the friction wheels are replaced by toothed wheels gearing with a toothed ring m carried by the frame f. The rear portion of the member a including the wheels a<4> may be dispensed with.
