Abstract
374,828. Transformers. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC & MANUFACTURING CO., East Pittsburg, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Whittaker, C. C. ; 541, Briar Cliff Road, Pittsburg, U.S.A.) Dec. 11, 1930, No. 37406. Convention date, Dec. 20, 1929. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 38 (ii).] Transformers or other electrical apparatus enclosed in a casing 4 are cooled by circulating within the casing by means of a fan 18 an inert gas such as nitrogen or carbon dioxide under pressure, a cooler 29 being interposed in the path of the gas. The cooler may comprise finned tubes through which a medium such as alcohol and water is circulated, the medium being passed through a fan-cooled radiator located outside the casing. Alternatively the cooler may form the evaporator of a refrigerating system which includes a compressor 25, a fan-cooled condenser 26 and expansion valve 27.
