Abstract
<PICT:0363116/III/1> In a process for evaporating liquids containing incrustants the solubility of which decreases with increasing temperature, e.g. brine containing gypsum in solution, by circulating the liquid in apparatus of the separate heater and evaporator type, deposition of salts in the heater is prevented by maintaining the liquid in the heater in the metastable zone, by employing high pressure in the heating zone, by keeping the temperature drop between the medium and the liquid small, by circulating the liquid at high velocity so as to give turbulent flow, and by relieving the supersaturation of the liquid prior to its return to the heating zone. Brine is circulated from a heater 2 through a pipe 11 to an evaporator 1, the pressure being relieved in two stages by a valve 12, and passage though nozzles 13. Steam is withdrawn through a pipe 14 and the concentrated liquid is returned through a saturator 4 and pipes 3, 5 to the heater 1 by a pump 6, driven by a turbine 7, the exhaust steam from which is led through a pipe 9 to the heater, extra steam being supplied through a pipe 10. The saturator A may alternatively be situated between the valve 12 and the nozzles 13. The velocity of the liquid in the heater should be at least 1 metre per second. U.S.A.
