367,726. Winding weft spools and cops. MASCHINENFABBIK SCHWEITER AKT.-GES., Horgen, near Zurich, Switzerland. Aug. 13, 1931, No. 22883. Convention date, Oct. 20, 1930. [Class 120 (ii).] In a machine for winding weft spools or cops having an axially movable winding spindle 11, shown in plan in Figs. 2 and 3, and an auxiliary thread-guide 23 reciprocated by the winding spindle against a spring 29 in order to form a bunch or reserve of thread at the commencement of winding, the guide 23, on completion of the bunch, being removed from the path of the spindle 11 by a ratchet device 37 and stopped, simultaneously releasing the thread, the auxiliary guide 23, 25 forms with a stationary guide member 22, 26 an angle which receives the thread 17 during winding of the reserve, the guide 23 being displaced on completion of the bunch by a lever 39 actuated by the ratchet 37 so that the thread slides off the free end of the stationary guide 22, 26 and is engaged by the principle guide 18. The lever 39 is pivoted at 40 to a disengaging lever 34, 35 held by a spring 38 against the hub 36 of the ratchet wheel 37, and carries a pawl 43 engaging the ratchet wheel 37. In reciprocating with the winding spindle 11 the auxiliary guide 23, through a pin 30, oscillates the lever 39 against the spring 44, the pawl 43 rotating the ratchet wheel 37 on each movement to the left, Fig. 2. When the hub 36 is turned so that the lever 35 engages the recess 56 the lever 34, 35 is rocked clockwise by the spring 38 and a pin 57 moves the lever 39 to the position shown in Fig. 3, the guide 23 being moved to the left and the thread slipping over the part 26 to the principal guide 18, the pin 30 being locked in the U-shaped part 41. The starting lever 32 is fixed to the spindle 33 carrying the lever 34, 35 and the ratchet wheel 37 mounted on a bush 45 serving as a bearing for a pin 46 carrying a disc 48 having a stop 47, Figs. 4 and 5, a spring 54 tending to rotate the ratchet wheel 37 so that a pin 55 fixed thereto abuts against the stop 47. In operation, the stop 47 is set for the desired reserve by turning the knob 49 and indicator arm 50. The lever 32 is then rotated anticlockwise, disengaging the lever 35 from the recess 56 so that the ratchet wheel 37 is turned by the spring 54 until the pin 55 engages the stop 47. The winding of the bunch then proceeds until stopped as set out above. In a modification, the stationary guide member is a straight rod 58, the auxiliary guide being formed as a bush 60 slidable thereon and having a cross-bar 63, Figs. 8 and 9.
