352,577. Caps. HOWLAND, T. J., 385, Indiana Avenue, Long Branch, New Jersey, U.S.A. April 22, 1930, No. 12480. Convention date, April 22, 1929. [Class- 63.] A bathing cap comprises a main portion 11, of elastic waterproof material, with a body gripping edge portion part or the whole of which is provided with air pockets to prevent the passage of water beneath the edge. Preferably, the air pockets are formed by a series o f crossed ribs 12 so arranged that water intending to pass to the inside of the cap must pass more than one pocket. Tapered elements forming projections 20 adaptedto fit into hollows in the contour of the head are provided, e.g. below the ears and at the nape of the neck. A fluid chamber 18, which may be inflated through a valve 19, is arranged along the outside edge of the cap to press the edge into close engagement with the skin.
