[Class 75 (ii).] Adjusting reflectors from a distance.-Relates to aircraft landing or like lights of the kind in which a gimbal-mounted reflector is capable also of axial movement as a whole for controlling both the direction of the beam and also its divergence and consists mainly of a double-jointed pilot's lever by which the movements of the reflector are effected. The reflector G is carried by a gimbal ring d, d<1> and is mounted for axial movement therein by means of spring-controlled sliding stems f. These movements are effected through four cables h attached to the reflector at symmetrically disposed points i and at their other ends carried over grooved segments p on the operating lever, Figs. 3 and 4. This latter comprises two parts j, k connected by a ball joint l, m and mounted at its lower end on a pivot which is normally locked against rotation by a wedge u causing sliding parts o of the pivot to engage serrated clutch faces v. The wedge is released, against the action of its locking spring q, by depressing the central two-part rod r, s and the lever can then be moved about the bottom pivot to pull all four cables and thus cause axial movement of the reflector. When the bottom pivot is allowed to remain locked however the only movement possible is a universal movement about the ball joint l, m, thus effecting a corresponding swivelling movement of the reflector.
