[Classes 52 (iii) and 52 (v).] A table or stand, or a skeleton framework for a crate, box, or the like, comprises leg or like corner parts attached to the top or like parts by hinge devices resembling universal joints, so that the table &c. may be collapsed by twisting the top in its own plane, the legs folding into a plane parallel to the top. Fig. 2 shows a table, inverted and partly collapsed, comprising a top 1, legs 2, and a shelf 3, and Fig. 4 shows a pivot connection for the legs 2 and the shelf 3. A similar device joins the legs and the top 1. It consists of pivot pins 5, 8 respectively parallel to the top 1 and at right-angles to it, both pivots being set in a small angle-piece 6. The table is held erect by means of four flaps 13, 14; the flaps 13 overlap the flaps 14, and are spread by them. Springs 15 tend to fold in the flaps 13, which have extensions 16 entering recesses 17 in the legs. When the table is extended, the angle-pieces 6, Fig. 4, abut the stops 12. A similar three-legged table with two lower shelves may be made. In making a plant or like stand, the top 1 may be replaced by a cruciform or other framework. On making collapsable crates or boxes, the spaces between the legs or corners 2 are filled up by flexible or creased materials, which may have a waterproof lining for use as a bath. Or a waterproof bag may be hung in an aperture cut in the parts 3, Fig. 2. In another modification, a table-top 1 and legs 2 are mounted on an opentopped box or bag on four rigid legs, forming a tool-box or ladies' work-box, surmounted by a table or shelf.
