355,056. Moulding and cutting artificial slates by extrusion machines ; fibrous compositions. TRAVNITSCHEK, F., Girsig, Post Eulenberg, near Romerstadt, and FRANK, J., Frankenstadt, near Mõhr, Sch÷nberg, both in Czecho-Slovakia. Sept. 11, 1930, No. 27134. [Classes 22, 70, and 87 (ii).] Artificial slates, composed of Portland cement, slate dust freed from fatty substances by washing in salt water, and long-fibre asbestos, are manufactured by mixing the ingredients in the rotary stirrers 1, 2, delivering the mixture to the extrusionmachine 4 and cutting off a section of the extruded material by the upper slide 11 of a pair of reciprocating slides 11, 12. The cut-off slab falls on to an intermittently-rotated tube 19 for delivery to a re-pressing machine. The lower part of the extrusion machine is perforated and lined with felt, the expressed liquid being redelivered to the mixers from the collecting tanks 8 by the pumps 9. The piston is in three sections 13, 14, 15, the outer sections 13, 15 being hinged and counterbalanced so that they can fold downwards on the upstroke, to admit the new charge of material. Preferably equal proportions of slate dust and cement are used in the mixture.
