Abstract

354,706. Electroplating. DEHN, F. B., 103, Kingsway, London.-(Major Engineering Corporation; 123, West Madison Street, Chicago, U.S.A.) Feb. 7, 1930, No. 4259. [Class 41.] On the bottom of a plating tank having movable cathodes is placed a layer of a pulverulent soluble metal, which replenishes the solution and becomes partly disseminated through the electrolyte so as to depolarize and burnish the cathodes. In soluble anodes are used. The cathodes are hung from a continuous travelling band 27 which passes round pulleys 13 .. 16 at the ends of the tank and, between the pulleys 15, 16, travels to and from a pulley 21. A screw adjustment 22 is provided for the bearing block of the pulley 21, for tightening the band. The band is supported by a flange on each pulley and is also secured to T-shaped shoes 28, Fig. 5, which slide in trackways 30 .. 33. A frame composed of angle-pieces rests on the upper edge of the tank and supports the pulleys and trackways. Each cathode plate is inserted in a rectangular frame 38 having internal V-shaped grooves in the perforated bottom and sides to receive it, the grooves in the sides being flared towards their upper ends, while the top of the frame is laterally placed so as to be clear of the cathode, but has an enlarged portion in which is a dovetail groove to take the wedge-shaped end of a hanger attached to the band. Two notches are made in each of the pulleys to allow passage of the hangers. There are five longitudinal rows 52 .. 56 of anodes, the middle one extending between the pulleys 15, 16, to the end of the tank, on which is a further row of anodes 59. Specification 21760/93 [Class 41, Electrolysis], is referred to.
