Abstract

344,636. Fluid actuated valves; accessories. S.I.A.M., Ltd. and ABRAM, W. H., 46, Kingsway, London. Feb. 18, 1930, No. 5440. [Class 135.] A non-drip valve for the discharge nozzles of lubricating oil pumps comprises a central stationary member 2, formed at the lower end with a conical valve face, and a sliding cylindrical sleeve 10 provided with an inwardly-disposed conical seating 7, said sleeve enclosing the member 2 and being integrally formed with or attached to the free end of a resilient bellows device 8, the whole being enclosed within the nozzle extension 1. In use the pressure of the oil &c. within the nozzle extends the bellows 8 thereby pushing the seating 7 away from the stationary valve face and allowing the oil to escape. The inwardly-tapered valve seating 7 when extended guides the oil &c. in a straight stream as it issues from the nozzle. The stationary member 2 is provided with channels 6 forming oil passages. A spring 11 arranged between the free end of the bellows and a flange 12 on the nozzle assists the return movement of the bellows. A one-way valve 15 arranged behind the non-drip valve closes the nozzle automatically on the return stroke of the pump. A corrugated diaphragm may be substituted for the bellows.
