Abstract
335,081. Gray, J., (Pacz, A.). Oct. 7, 1929. Alloys.-An alloy particularly suitable for electric contact terminals consists of copper and silicon together with tungsten or molybdenum or both. It may contain 50-95 per cent of tungsten or molybdenum. 5-50 per cent of copper, and 0.2-5 per cent of silicon. In some cases part of the copper may be replaced by silver, and a small amount of an iron group metal may be present. The alloy may be made by heating copper in contact with a compacted mixture of silicon and tungsten or molybdenum, or by heating a mixture of copper and silicon in contact with compacted tungsten or molybdenum, or by heating copper in contact with a mixture oi silicon and tungsten or molybdenum obtained by reducing mixed oxides resulting from precipitation of mixed solutions of silicate and tungstate or molybdate with acid.
