Abstract
334,813. Baader, R. Dec. 20, 1929. Addition to 320,576. Dressing fish.-Relates to a modification in the means for removing backbones in the machine described in the parent Specification. A disc 22, rotated at approximately the same speed as the disc 1 by means of gearing and shafting, including universal joints, is provided on each side with sharpened projections 21 of ogival form. The disc 22 is journaled to the swinging arm 20 which is pivoted at 19 and pressed against the fish by a spring 18. A sharpened adjustable plunger or knife 24, Figs. 5 and 7, is carried on the arm 20 and is arranged between the spikes 21 to sever the backbone adjacent to the tail and to ease it out of the fish. The spikes 21 penetrate the flesh on each side of the backbone, whilst the disc 22 presses and rolls on the inside surface of the backbone and presses the fish against the disc 1. thus ensuring that it will be conveyed thereby. The rib-bones are forced into the gaps between the spikes 21 and as the disc 22 rotates, are drawn out of the belly cavity. The disc 22 and spikes 21 are cleared by the member 25. The amount of penetration of the spikes 21 is adjustable by a screw 31. The plough 24 is lifted over the tail root by a cam 26 on the disc 21 engaging a roller 27 on the arm 20.
