Abstract
328,757. Booth, T. G. April 3, 1929. Breaking and scutching apparatus.-In a decorticating-machine of the type comprising a series of crushing or breaking rollers A - - F, Fig. 1, the rollers are grouped in pairs and the line of contact constituting the feed space between coacting rollers of one pair is inclined in the opposite direction to the line of contact between coacting rollers of an adjacent pair, driving means for the rollers being provided. The rollers in one pair taper in the same direction adjacent pairs of rollers tapering oppositely, while the rollers are ribbed longitudinally. The successive groups of rollers A - - F comprise respectively cylindrical rollers 17, tapered rollers 21, 26, 31, 36 and cylindrical rollers 43, the tapered sets being arranged so that the feed spaces between adjacent pairs are inclined oppositely, as in Figs. 10 and 11, which show adjacent pairs of rollers in group B. The rollers are driven by sprocket-chains 50 from a main shaft 2 through a countershaft 6 and auxiliary driving shafts 14, 15, 16, Fig. 1, each pair of rollers being geared together as by gears 25, Figs. 10 and 11. The tapered rollers decrease in diameter while the longitudinal ribs increase in height over the range B - - E. The material is fed to the rollers 17 by a belt 53 and is delivered by a belt 54, while a comb 41 consisting of depending pins 42 is provided between the groups E, F.
