Abstract

Stops.-Apparatus for conveying solid material through furnaces, kilns, driers, carbonizing- ovens, or other apparatus for treating solids with gas or vapour, comprises a truck Q with a perforated false bottom e arranged above a solid bottom f the latter being formed with a depending gas inlet b which is normally above the level of the tops of the fixed gas-supply conduits c but is brought into close register therewith by the engagement of the truck wheels in grooves a provided in the rails a<1>. Between the false and solid bottoms e, f is disposed an apertured baffle-plate g which has a solid portion above the inlet b to prevent passage of solid material into the gas admission conduits c. A modification is described in which the need for the truck wheels to enter and leave a groove a, during passage from one supply pipe c to the next, is eliminated by the provision of two pairs of rails a<1> of different gauge.
