Abstract

325,211. Wigglesworth, A. P. Nov. 9, 1928. Moulding pipes and tubes. - Plaster is sprayed on to the outside of a slowly-rotating core, comprising a collapsable framework covered with paper or burlap, thus forming a plaster pipe which is then moistened with soap or oil and used with the framework as a core to receive a sprayed cement coating to form the pipe proper; the plaster lining being removed from the dried and matured pipe. The framework comprises longitudinal slots 28 carried by arms 27 positioned simultaneously by screwmechanism 29 and working in conjunction with fixed discs 34 so that the diameter of the core is varied by adjusting the nut 30. The burlapcovered framework is mounted between headstocks 9, 9<a> in the latter for rotation by the beltpulleys 11. The spraying-nozzle 17 is connected to and traversed by the leading-screw 7, while a strickle 37 positioned by the screw-mechanism 41 trims the surface and delivers excess material to the screw-conveyer 19 for removal. Mechanism is shown also for delivering a reinforcing strip from a storage roll to the rotating pipe; the strip traversing the length of the pipe similarly to the spraying-nozzle. The invention also is shown applied to a pipe manufactured in a vertical position.
