Abstract

316,165. Caddy, W. T., and Doig, D. April 23, 1928. Bodies; hoods.-Body panels, hoods, &c, for road vehicles are made by embedding flattened coils of wire in rubber and enclosing the whole in outer layers of textile fabric. The panel is moulded to the required shape and vulcanized. The edges or other parts may be strengthened by unflattened wire coils inserted therein. The rubberized wire coils may be enclosed in envelopes of braided textile material. Each strip may consist of two coils of opposite hand fitted one within the other and flattened. The Fig. shows the invention applied to the construction of a mud-guard. Flattened wire coils 1 are embedded in rubber and enclosed between canvas coverings 2. An unflattened wire coil 3 is provided at the edges.
