Abstract

315,818. Holzverkohlungs-Industrie Akt.-Ges. July 19, 1928. [Convention date]. Ketones.-Aliphatic compounds not containing carboxyl groups, e.g. hydrocarbons, aldehydes, alcohols, or esters, are converted into ketones by the action of steam in presence of catalysts comprising metal-oxygen compounds on carriers of iron or iron alloys. As metal-oxygen compounds oxides or carbonates of calcium, manganese, and chromium are mentioned; they may be produced by decomposition of salts such as the acetates. The carrier is preferably of a porous character such as iron sponge. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes the use of metallic carriers other than iron and its allovs. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as acceepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 280,184 and 302,759.
